Selene Báez is attending the Annual Meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, alongside 450 researchers and their families, who are currently guests at German universities. The event celebrates the global Humboldt network and its commitment to fostering international collaboration and trust.
We are proud to share that Selene Báez has been awarded the Humboldt Alumni Award for Innovative Networking for her project: “A restoration hub for tropical Andean ecosystems: linking science and practice.” together with Armando Molina, and Juan Carlos Reyes. All of them are associate professors at the National Polytechic School (EPN) in Quito, Ecuador.
The project is focused on the tropical Andes—one of the world’s most biodiverse regions— which faces increasing threats from global environmental change. In response, Selene Báez (plant ecologist), together with Armando Molina (hydrologist) and Juan Carlos de los Reyes (mathematician), has launched an ambitious initiative to bridge science and on-the-ground action. Their interdisciplinary hub will study ecosystem recovery in páramo and Andean forest restoration sites, linking researchers from Germany and Ecuador to foster collaboration, effective restoration, and the training of future scientists.
Selene Báez is a Georg Forster Research Fellow and Associate Professor at the Deparment of Biology, National Polytechnic School (EPN) in Quito, Ecuador. The project also counts with the support of additional collaborators as Ximena Palomeque, from Universidad de Cuenca, and Sebastian Paez, National Polytechnic School.
Congratulations, Selene, on this well-deserved recognition!
