She analyzed isotopes on leaf samples from herbarium collections of four Andean species, collected over eight decades (1940-2020). Her preliminary results highlighted an apparent decline in iWUE in Andean species. This suggests that these species are not capturing carbon as expected with current atmospheric fertilization. She also stated the value of herbarium specimens to understanding past and future ecological trends, beyond their value for taxonomic studies.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7fb2332 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"7fb2332\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8b0b8c3 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"8b0b8c3\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-18e5586 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"18e5586\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alejandra Moscoso presented her work on \u00abLiana Diversity and Abundance in Dry and Moist Tropical Montane Forests in Ecuador\u00bb. Her research has used an inventory of lianas in a total of 125 observation plots distributed between 600 and 3000 m a.s.l., Alejandra highlighted that lower temperatures and reduced water availability leading to a decrease in liana abundance. His research evaluates seedling performance in Andean using an experimental set up that manipulates shade and competition with grasses in old pastures, in\u00a0 along a 900 m elevational gradient in southern Ecuador. His results showsthat elevation and shade are the main modulators of seedling performance. Therefore these factors should be considered for designing more effective restoration strategies in similar environments<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-02ae0a6 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"02ae0a6\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a20fd1f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a20fd1f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.38; margin-top: 12pt; margin-bottom: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;\">In addition, Ximena Palomeque, Gabriela Maldonado, and Selene B\u00e1ez led an oral session on \u00abDrivers of Recovery in Restored Tropical Forests\u00bb.<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.38; margin-top: 12pt; margin-bottom: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;\">This event was an opportunity to bring most of the members of the RECO-Andes project together at the same location. Aside from the research shared, we could interact and plan further activites and a continuation of the project in the future.
